bamboozled

I've just watched bamboozled and I've thought what Dr Lambiase said that many people did not believe that this is a satire. I find this too be utterly stupid. How can people not see this as a satire if throughout the movie, there is always at least one character who protested the Mantan show. Also, if this was just a mock show, Reverend Al Sharpton and Johnny cockran would not participate on it. I think that some people don't consider this a satire and instead consider it a mock show because the movie is not politically correct. People in America have a bias towards political incorrectness.

ethnics in the Mass Media

I think that if a certain ethnic wants to earn recognition in Americas' main stream cuture, they have to be the tough guys in movies. Asian-Americans earned their position in main stream American culture by introducing Bruce Lee; Italian-Americans by the Godfather; and Cuban- Americans with Scarface.

pedophile vagueness in the media

Talking about the gay vague ads in our class just remind me of something. There is also pedophile vagueness in the media. The best example I can think of is Red Hot Chili Peppers video call Aeroplane. The video featured women with skimpy outfits and bathing suits doing sexually stimulating acts. However, in the end, the video featured little girls with their bathing suits as a closing act. Another example of pedophile vagueness in the media are the Barbie doll commercials in the 90's. They usually featured girls in their bathing suits. In addition to that, on of the Barbie girls girls is Jennifer Love Hewitt. She once said that she had to wear some padding in that commercial because she started to develop breast. Girls in the Barbie commercials are usually int heir bathing suits and they are not allowed to have breast

maxim magazine

It's true from our class discusions that the media and the products they sell is intensionally over sexualized. However, in the case of how men magazines is sexualize, perhaps it is a coincidence that men's magazines are what it is now. Men's magazine became oversexualized because they tried to copy Maxim Magazine, which had sales far ahead from other magazines of it's genre. I think that men's magazine would still follow the footsteps of Maxim magazine if it was other than pictures of scantily clothes women that made their magazines sell.

However, I also think that if it wasn't Maxim magazine, it would be other magazines that would pioneer the featuring f sexualized images of women on their pages.

people in the media

I'd like to talk for once of how people present themselves in the media rather than how journalist depicts them. I think that people sometimes make a fool out of themselves to gain publicity. In the field of journalism, we are told that the media depicts only part of reality because of it's limited time and space. However, the problem with time and space is also a problem that people who presents themselves in the media faces. There is so much that journalists can depict, but there are also only so much that people in the news can depict. For example, NTTV takes footage of a bunch of people on campus showing their half naked bodies for a movement call "Love your body." It's a movement that encourages people to love their bodies instead of judging beauty by media standards. The "Love your Body people," however fail to tell people that eventhough we shouldn't judge our bodies from the media's point of view, we should judge it from a health perspective. It's allright not too be embarasssed if you're overweight for example, but it is something that we should be concern of because of health reasons. This is a major flaw for these people, because the point of their cause is to promote health. In my opinion, this is becasue it is easier for people to say "Love your body." instead of "Love your body, but....."This is the same with the Jena 6 case. It's more spectacular to say "Free Jena 6" than to say "put Jena 6 in Juvenile penetentiary."

sex in our media culture and ancient culture

I think that the reason that sex has been a part of pop culture is because it's a big part of human civilization. Ancient civilizations such as the Romans, Greeks and Egyptians had sex in the center of their main stream culture. I think that the sex culture we see today in the media is just a repetance of the original culture of human beings before it was destroyed by Judeo-Christianity. In my opinion, the video clips that we saw in our class is just the new form of what the Greeks and the ROmans did when they created their classical sculptures or when they created their mythology. The difference is that our media today focuses more on the objectification of women, while in Ancient cultures the objectification is spread more evenly to both races.
